 "WHISPERING WILLIE"

William H. Merwin, age 72, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at his home in Brick. Born in Perth Amboy, he lived in Point Pleasant, and has resided in Brick for the last 48 years.

Willie worked as a fisherman, welder and a fence installer prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Ham radio operator, handle AA2SV, and enjoyed listening to books, sports, especially baseball on the radio. He also learned Morse code.

He is predeceased by his loving son, Jonathan William Merwin, age 35, in 2015 and his sister, Margurite.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Debbie Merwin; his daughter, Amber and her husband, Matt; his daughter-in-law, Anne Marie; his cherished grandsons, Kobyn and Jonathan; his brothers-in-law, Jack and Frank; his sister-in-law, Keryl; his cousins, Karen and Scott, Craig, Keith, Scott and Paige; in addition to extended family, many of his friends and follow radio operators.

Frank was an avid NY Giants fan and screamed at the television in excitement and disgust over games when he wasn't sitting in section 319 at Giants Stadium eating way too many peanuts and far too many hot dogs. In civilian life, he was also a hand radio operator; his handle and sign off being "W2FFH."

On Tuesday 12/17/19 a wake will be held at the Timothy E. Ryan Funeral Home, 809 NW Central Avenue, Seaside Park, NJ from 4pm to 8pm and Mass and Funeral Service will be held at Saint Catharine's of Siena, 50 E Street, Seaside Park, NJ at 10AM on 12/18/19. Valerie Grasso, 70, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ. She was born in Coventry, England, and resided in Staten Island, NY, prior to relocating to Jackson Twp., NJ, 26 years ago. Valerie was a graduate of Staten Island College of Nursing and was employed as an RN with CareOne at Jackson, Jackson Twp., NJ, retiring in 2009 after 10 years of employment.

John T. Cappadoccia, 81, of Whiting, N.J., died on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa., after a sudden illness. Funeral service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home Inc., 274 Market St., Elmwood Park, N.J. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. Visiting is Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Born in Jersey City, N.J., John lived in Jersey City and Bayonne, N.J., before moving to Whiting five years ago. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John is survived by his beloved friend, Dorothy Maffei, of Whiting, and his daughter, Patricia Cappadoccia of Garfield, N.J. John was predeceased by his mother, Anna (nee Recla), and father, Thomas, and his sister, Stella Cappadoccia. -

Matthew LoBianco, 89, of Jackson Township, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Fountain View Care Center, Lakewood. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived in Jackson Township for the past 50 years. Mr. LoBianco was a mechanic for Garden State Polymers, Newark. He was a member of the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club, the Jersey Shore Amateur Radio Club, and the Pinelands Antique Engine Club.

He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Koehl LoBianco, in 2000. Surviving are two sons, Matthew LoBianco Jr. and his wife, Laura, Jackson Township, and Thomas LoBianco, New Lisbon; a daughter, Jacqueline Hardy, Manchester Township; a sister, Antoinette Lowry, Staten Island, NY; two grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

Roy Armstrong KA2ENV,  67, of Davenport, FL, formerly of Toms River, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010. Roy worked for the New York City Transit Authority as a bus operator for 21 years, retiring in 1991. He was born in Bronx, NY, and lived in Toms River before moving to Florida several years ago.  While living in Toms River, Roy was a active member of JSARS and the Beachwood OEM.  Roy got his HAM license by learning morse code with a key strapped to his leg while he was driving the bus.  Roy was always there to lean a helping hand at all radio events and to the older HAMs in getting them stated in the hobby.  His unmistakable "Raspy" voice will be miss by many.  May he rest in peace.

Timothy W. Daniels, 31, of Jackson, NJ died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at Ocean Medical Center Brick, NJ. Born in West Union, Ohio, Tim lived in Jackson for 25 years. He was a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church Lakewood, NJ. Tim worked in the Maintenance department for Great Adventure Jackson, NJ. He was an amateur radio operator for JSARS. He enjoyed music and writing poetry.
Tim is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Norman and Jeanne Daniels; his maternal grandfather, Clarence Grooms. Tim is also predeceased by his father in 2006, William Daniels. Tim is survived by his mother, Beverly Daniels of Jackson, NJ; his daughter, Jasmine Pearson of Cincinnati, Ohio and many aunts, uncles and cousins. W2LKS, John Calise Giovani B. Calise, 71, of Toms River died Thursday November 27th at home. He was born in Manhattan, NY and lived in Yonkers, NY before moving to Toms River, NJ 8 years ago. He was in the National Guard. He worked as a Railroad Conductor for the New York Central now known as the MTA for over 40 years. Giovani is a member of St. Justin's Roman Catholic Church Toms River, NJ. He was an Amateur Radio Operator and had two call letter W2LKS and WA2YWB and a member of the East Coast Radio Operators Club. Giovani was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandpa. He is survived by his Wife of 48 years Elizabeth (nee DeMeo). Two daughters and their spouses Joann and Matthew Dimon of New York; Toni and Paulino Santiago also of New York. Five grandchildren Paul John, Elizabeth, Massimo, Arizona, and Demetria. One brother Joey Calise of New York. Two sisters Eleanore Vittule and Rita Volpe both of New York. KY2G, George Henry Rowden George Henry Rowden, 91, of Beachwood, died Thursday, Oct. 2, at home. He was born and raised in Woodsville, N.H. Upon finishing high school, he graduated from Capitol Radio School, Washington, D.C. He was employed by AT&T and worked at their offices in New York City, Manahawkin, McGuire Air Force Base and Ocean Gate. He retired in 1982 with 41 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Ocean County Civil Defense and a life member of the Beachwood Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Rowden was also a ham radio operator for 75 years and was a member of the Jersey Shore Amateur Radio Society.

K2RXN, Charles "Chuck" Searles On August 12, 2008, Chuck lost his fight with cancer, and we lost a devoted and dear friend and member of JSARS. He was one of our longest continuously active members. He was faithful and committed to our club and to amateur radio. On Field days, Chuck was known start operating his station on Saturday night and continue making contacts until 7 a.m. Sunday morning. His presence will be missed by many at all of our events and meetings. Chuck requested that his radio equipment be donated to JSARS after his death. His equipment will become part of our club station in the trailer as a memorial to him. To his wife Debbie, and family, go our condolences for their loss, and they will remain in thoughts and prayers. To JSARS, and those who had the pleasure to know him, Chuck will be a silent key but a lasting memory.

On June 19, 2007 the ham world lost a great friend, father, and husband. Jim Lange, Sr., KD2OV (formerly WA2EIF) passed away after a three year illness. He was a member of JSARS almost from the beginning, some 40 years ago. He was an active member for many years as part of the technical committee that kept the original 146.910 repeater running. He also donated his time to the Civil Air Patrol based out of Miller Air Park, in Berkley, NJ, converting old commercial equipment into their repeater and mobile stations. In his later years, he settled into working DX on the low bands and occasionally visiting local hamfests to meet with the old and not so old friends he made over the years. He left a lasting impression on anyone he met and always tried to give back to the hobby that he loved so much. 73 es 88 KD2OV ..._._

W2CE (ex WN2DIN, WB2DIN), Robert Reed, passed away on October 30, 2005. Bob had been ill for sometime and in and out of the hospital over his last few months. Bob was 55 and is survived by a daughter and brother. Bob was born in Brooklyn and spent the last number of years in New Jersey. He was a active radio enthusiast and a very active DXer over the years. He was was active on many e-mail reflectors, including various scanning lists and most recently the moderator of DX-list a Yahoo DX mailing reflector. An active radio enthusiast Bob was not only a ham but a full fledged radio geek. From the Asbury Park Press November 2, 2005: ROBERT REED, 55, of MANCHESTER, died Sunday, Oct. 30, at home. He was a sales manager for E-Systems, Washington, D.C. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Jackson before moving to Manchester 11 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Meredith Peruzzi; and a brother, Randall Reed of Lewes, Del.

Steve Sinkez, W2DOR, passed away on December 28, 2004, at age 88. He was a long time pillar of the JSARS community and a skilled net control. He was a member of the ARRL A-1 Operator Club. The JSARS Repeater now operates in his memory as W2DOR.

John Glowacki 1966-2000 John was very dedicated to the club. He started the packet station amongst being the club trustee, the VE liaison, the Webmaster, packet and repeater technical committee. John has dedicated his short life on this planet helping others. He was a dispatcher for the fire department. And also taught EMT training at the local area hospital. His mother, V. But when John G. Glowacki was a boy, he spent many of his summer days at the East Dover First Aid Squad. "I first met John when he used to ride his bicycle by the first aid building when he was a little kid," said East Dover First Aid Capt. Edward Kropinack. "He was staying across the street from the first aid building and he said he couldn't wait to get on an ambulance. He was about 9 or 10 years old then." Glowacki, who joined East Dover First Aid as a cadet when he was 16 years old, died of a heart attack Wednesday, stunning his extended family of friends in the township's and county's emergency services community. Glowacki, 34, had been a member of the first aid squad for 18 years, a township fire dispatcher for 15, and an EMT instructor at Community Medical Center who had taught dozens of emergency medical technicians throughout the area. "This was his life, emergency services," said Kropinack. "We were really a big family that he was involved in. He touched a lot of lives." East Dover First Aid Sgt. Michael Caruso said he and Glowacki became fast friends after Caruso moved here from Elizabeth about 15 years ago. Glowacki was already deeply involved with the first aid squad, but Caruso had no interest in joining the squad until about 10 years ago, when Glowacki saved his father-in-law's life. Caruso said Glowacki performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on his father-in-law, Paul Partazana, reviving him. "My father-in-law had hardly any pulse," Caruso said. "John performed CPR on him and saved his life. That convinced me to become a volunteer first aider." In 1994, Caruso and Glowacki received a proclamation from the Dover Township Committee after they helped revive Steven Denbow, a 43-year-old New Hampshire man who nearly drowned while visiting a Morris Boulevard home. Denbow had been under water for about five minutes when a neighbor found him and began performing CPR. Caruso, Glowacki and Patrolman Brian Nesta arrived and helped revive Denbow, who made it to the hospital and survived. "That was what John did," Caruso said. "He saved lives. Unfortunately, the night he died, there was nothing we could do for him." Caruso said Glowacki was known as a great and patient teacher in his role as EMT instructor at Community. "John was really an inspiration for every EMT in the county of Ocean," Caruso said. In addition to his involvement with emergency services, Glowacki was deeply involved in the Jersey Shore Amateur Radio Society. Committeeman Clarence E. "Bud" Aldrich III, who serves as liaison to the first aid squad captains, said Glowacki was a "quiet, hard-working kid who would volunteer for anything."

MORRIS W. KANISS, N2KGR, of TOMS RIVER Published in the Asbury Park Press 6/18/00 MORRIS W. KANISS, 88, of TOMS RIVER, died Tuesday at home. He was a dentist with a practice on Main Street, Toms River. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel, Toms River. He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, Toms River since 1946, a member of the Jewish War Veterans, a member of the Chaverim ham radio club of the Jersey Shore, and a member of the JSARS Radio Club. He was a ham radio operator for 11 years active on NETS and 2 METERS, with the will call name N2KGR DR. MORRIS. He attended ham radio conventions throughout the U.S. He was a member of the American Dental Association for 60 years and kept up with his continuing education credits for dentistry. Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Toms River since 1945. Surviving are his former wife; a son; three daughters; a brother, Samuel of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of the donor's choice. K2OZWJOHN FLICKINGER WILHELM, K2OZW, of Leisure Village, LAKEWOOD Published in the Asbury Park Press 5/9/00 JOHN FLICKINGER WILHELM, 79, of Leisure Village, LAKEWOOD, died Friday at Community Medical Center, Toms River, after a brief illness. He was employed by RCA, Lancaster, Pa., and Harrison from 1942 to 1976; and IEEE, New York and Piscataway, from 1976 to 1985. He held one of the basic patents on the color picture tube for television. He was a member of Tau Beta Phi and a life senior member of IEEE. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, and served as elder in the First Presbyterian and Trinity Church, South Orange, and First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, Pa. He was involved in many community service organizations, most recently chairing the Ocean County Judical Advisory Committee, which helped plan the new jury assembly facilities for Superior Court. Operating as W3SNI while in Pennsylvania and K20ZW while in New Jersey, he was an active ham radio operator and member of the Jersey Shore Amateur Radio Society. He achieved his dream of a lifetime by getting his general class license on April 15. He also volunteered with Leisure Village News (a monthly newspaper) and served as president of Leisure Village's Camera Club. Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, he lived in Lancaster and Maplewood before moving to Leisure Village in 1985. He was predeceased by his wife, Martha "Pat" Bennett French Wilhelm; and a sister, Marian Wilhelm Frook. Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Barbara E. Wilhelm of Uniontown, Pa., and Jeanne Yurke of Plainfield; and two grandchildren, Derek Vincent and Shane Joseph Perrone of Uniontown, Pa. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, Hooper Avenue at Chestnut Street, Toms River.
